Product Profile
The novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is something that should be read by teenagers and older. The book is not recommended for children under the age of 12, due to the use of strong language, and mature subject matter. The novel is based upon a fifteen year-old teenager, Christopher Boone, on his quest to determine who killed Wellington. The function/purpose of the product is to show the life of an autistic boy, and how it relates and differentiates from the lives of normal teenagers. The novel is used to show the perspective of how mentally disabled people may act, their feelings, their likes and dislikes, etc. The emotional appeal of this novel is strong, due to the different conflicts that occur between the characters, the struggles that they face that can be related to real life, and the wide spectrum of attitudes that one may face. There are many moments in the novel that may make us feel many types of emotions at once; happy, sad, angry, excited, confused, etc. Also, because the story is written in first person perspective, our feelings are likely to be the same as Christopher's feelings, because we are experiencing the situations at the same time as Christopher.
An advertising appeal and claim used in this ad is the use of "Plain Folks", a style of advertisement used to speak to the majority of people, as saying that the advertiser is one of them. This is used during the part of the advertisement where we feel the same emotions as Christopher does. This shows that perhaps there are more people like that who feel the same way that you do, and the same way that Christopher does. Therefore, the style "Plain Folks" can be used to speak to many people about a common goal/feeling that may occur between many people.
